April 10, 2008

The LeBoeuf Little League held their monthly meeting at the Waterford Boro Building. Garry Sargent called the meeting to order at 8:45 pm.

SECRETARY: The minutes were read and corrections were made and Mike Hering motioned to accept, seconded by Ed Vorpagel.

TREASURER’S REPORT: Report was read by Darlene Haibach and approved by Mike Falk and seconded by Mark Lockhart. See attached report.

SPECIAL PROJECTS: Per Darlene Haibach, 31 players have not paid for their fundraiser of yet, 43 boxes of candy are still available for sale, which will be brought to the coaches’ meeting. 411 players have signed-up as of today’s meeting. Paul Peters has the Stromboli order arranged; the orders are to be turned in by May 4 and delivery will be May 17; he can get them for $1.45 and they’ll be sold for $2.50. The coaches’ meeting will be Sunday, April 13 at 7:00pm at the Summit Township Building. Per Brian Mitchell-Steve Krolczyk working on the signs and will be put up on Field Maintenance Days, April 19 and April 26.

PICTURE COMMISSIONER: Mike Hering reminded everyone picture day will be Saturday, May 3 at the high school gym. He said Sonney’s will stay on schedule, so all teams should be told to arrive 15 minutes early. Sonney’s will have wooden frames for the sponsor packs.

PUBLIC RELATIONS: Garry Sargent stated the website is up-to-date. Darlene spoke with Joy Greco-there will be $5000 available for LLL, once we have complete the W9 form and receive a tracking number. LLL needs to provide an itemized list of job quotes for the dugouts, building, etc. Mark Rose said he has quotes for drainage work that he’ll provide. Mike Hering said he will get a copy of the grant request the Zoo completed I order for LLL to possibly obtain a DCNR Grant.

BASEBALL COMMISSIONER: Mark Rose stated Val completed all of the baseball schedules and are already distributed—Shelly McCall is the contact person if dates need changed. Minor boys start games the first full week of May. Union City now has 2 teams and they will be invited to the Coaches’ Meeting. Mark made the request for extra pitch counters. The fourth Junior boys’ coach has been found. Mark stated no 12 year old boys can move up to play. If a team is short a player, they can have a player from the opposing team, but that player cannot pitch. Mark said a baseball did some damage to an Exit sign in the Mill Village Gymnasium and he was waiting to find out what LLL would need to do to repair it.

SOFTBALL COMMISSIONER: Ed Vorpagel reported the softball coaches already have their packets and have begun practices.

UMPIRE COMMISSIONER: Garry will meet with Greg Roberts to set up an indoor umpire clinic at one of the schools. Val Rose stated she definitely needs older umpires. Stuart Carr made a motion to pay the full wage to umpires who show up for games, when there is not a game as a result of the coaches' error. A motion was made also to increase the pay to $20 behind the plate and $15 for the field.

TOURNAMENT COMMISSIONER: Per Ed, the Major girls have 3 teams signed up for the Harborcreek Tournament, for regular season players only. Ed also said there will need to be a tournament committee set up for the 9 & 10 year old tournament, which will be arranged at the coaches’ meeting.

SCHEDULING COMMISSIONER: No updates, per Shelly McCall.

UNIFORM COMMISSIONER: Brian Smith will distribute uniforms on Saturday, April 26 at the Waterford Complex Field 4 from 8-10am, rain or shine.

FIELD MAINTENANCE Brian Mitchell reported that Ray Showman, Jr., began the field work on April 7. He had silt and drainage completed on Field 2—as a donation to LLL, Ray raised the field up 4 inches. Brian suggested a thank-you card be sent. Ray will complete the work in July and the fields will not be available until next season. LLL will donate "Ray Showman, Jr. Excavating" signs for the fields. Thanks also go to Ron Troyer who donated silt to the McCall Field, Waterford Complex Fields 4&5 and to Mill Village. The lime has been ordered as well as the portable toilets. There was vandalism to the concession stand trailer at the complex and it was suggested that on Filed Day, they be boarded up to keep out the inclement weather and animals. Stuart Carr said his father may not be able to do the mowing this year due to health problems, so LLL will need to look for a replacement. The tractor needs to go to Pennock’s for maintenance. Mark Rose said Scott Staal fixed the pitching machine at no charge and suggested a thank you go out to him. Mike Hering suggested the playing fields be "rolled" and Steve Krolczyk offered to take with "Cross Paving".

INSURANCE COMMISSIONER: Rosters will need done by April 3- and insurance needs paid by June 7, 2008.

EQUIPMENT COMMISSIONER: Garry introduced Harold Haibach who offered to help out with the equipment maintenance.

OLD BUSINESS: No updates.

NEW BUSINESS: Randy Amon received quotes from the Erie Sports Store for girls’ bats and catcher’s equipment. New balls need purchased for the pitching machine. A motion was made to purchase new equipment from the Erie Sports Store that is needed, as seen fit by the equipment commissioner for each of the teams as well as first-aid kits. The motion was accepted by Mark Rose and seconded by Mark Lockhart. On April 20, there will be a coaches’ clinic at North East High School for all coaches, which will be mentioned at the coaches’ meeting April 13.
